Please note that the time taken to transcribe a tape is dependent on:
• Quality of the recording
• Clarity of the person/people speaking
• Accents/dialects of speaker/s
• Speed at which person/people speak
• Number of people speaking together
• Tape content and technical terms used Normally we speak four to five times faster than we can type. Therefore, it can be assumed that it takes approximately 4-5 hours to transcribe a 1-hour tape. There may be times however when it may take much longer than this. For example, a 1 hour tape containing a speaker dictating clearly and precisely, may take 4 hours to transcribe, whereas a 1 hour tape containing a meeting with many speakers, perhaps with only one microphone may take up to 10 hours to transcribe.
